The button New Identity creates a new way to go through different Tor nodes, but can use the same exit Tor node. See also https://tails.boum.org/ikiwiki.cgi?P=new+identity ...

forum/Security Updates: apt-get Sufficient?/comment 1 348b49994af991d94379d93c0049356f
1) Just running an apt-get update && upgrade is better than nothing, but won't replace a real upgrade by downloading the new iso. Mainly because some of the upgrades you do with apt-get might require a reboot to be effective, which doesn't happen in the Tails' context. You also won't be able to use the new features we put in our releases, nor their bug fixes, which aren't always available in the Debian archive. 2) Not sure how concerned you should be, depends on the usage you did....

forum/Why do we share traffic for I2P ?/comment 110 1de807b297226dc6ba914cac5559cec7
@ good points: I agree with the comment that i2p should be started in hidden mode for tails. I2P benifits greatly from i2prouters that are online for very long periods at a time, tails users imo wont fit in to this, and this can have the opposite effect at being helpful to the network I'm amazed to see a (basically) good technical point after the thread has gone this wild. While this point isn't completely correct, it at least lead me to realize another reason to run I2P in hidden mode which I believe...

blueprint/usability testing
Ticket: #6860 People from Silicon Sentier proposed to conduct a usability testing session on Tails. The starting point is the fact that FOSS projects too often have poor usability and are not attractive to potential users. They want to play a role in fixing this, by building a bridge between the designers, graphics artists, and UI experts community on the one hand, and the FOSS people on the other hand. Exercises Here are a few exercises that we could propose them: On the mockups on the new Tails Greeter,...

Vidalia is an anonymity manager. Basically this means that it can be used to control Tor, and is automatically launched on network connection. As soon as the Tor client managed to establish a route to the Tor network, Vidalia hides as an onion icon in the notification area of the screen. Right-clicking this icon displays a configuration menu. The Network Map The network map displays a window showing a map of the Tor network, a list of Tor relays and a list of currently used routes and their status....

news/new SSL certificate
On the same day Tails 0.10 was put out, our website started to use a commercial SSL certificate. This new certificate replaces the previous one that was delivered by the non-commercial CACert certificate authority. What are SSL certificates? Using HTTPS instead of plain HTTP to connect to a website allows you to encrypt your communication with the server. But encryption alone does not guarantee that you are talking with the right server, and not someone impersonating it, for example in case of a man-in-the-middle...
