Is it just me or is the display Tails defaults to brighter then the default for most mainstream OSes?

Anyway is I need a way to tone the brightness down. That would make my eyes feel a lot better.

Tails is using a bright color theme, but I assume you mean that the whitest white is brighter on Tails than other OSes. In that case:

On my computer the keys (on the keyboard) for changing screen brightness works just fine. If your computer lacks that, go to "System->Preferences->Power Management" and you can adjust the brightness there.

It is 100% by default, but that applies to most OSes I think.

I've never noticed any such thing.

Hasn't your laptop or external screen brightness control buttons?

I have a somewhat similar situation. My laptop's brightness is normally adjusted by holding Fn and pressing the left or right arrow. And Tails DOES recognize these commands in that it displays a little slider thing, but the screen remains the same (very bright) regardless.

I realize you'd probably need to know more about my hardware to be any help, and I don't have that info handy right now, except that it's a Gateway netbook, which I'm sure helps almost not at all.

To answer the Tails dev question (if you don't notice the brightness try turning the brightness in Tails all the way down compared to the brightness all the way down on windows) , yes I have external keys to control brightness on my laptop. As said earlier, Tails acknownledges this by displaying the changes to the brightness meter. However the display appears almost just as bright if you turn the brightness all the way down. Likewise, when this is done from system--preferences--power management.

Would there be a difference if you turned the brightness down via terminal?

Please report a complete bug, then :)
